Professional Nurse

I was in a fortunate position not to have any debt, but I used to live off 100% of my income. I knew I had to tithe, but thinking I could give an amount to a local ministry doing outreaches was enough according to me, but I was wrong.

I realised and learned that I had to bring my whole tithe (10%) to the storehouse of God – the church, for them to support outreach ministries.

And that through me God wants to bless nations. It was awesome to know that I could also be part of reaching the lost, even though I could not be there myself.

I learned Gods way’s for my finances and that I had to live on only 80% of my income. I had to start saving! I opened three other accounts and divided another 10% of my income into these accounts every month. You will not believe the amount I have saved in the last two years. Knowing that God is my provider and that my work is just the channel He uses to supply an income to me, has changed my whole attitude towards my salary.

Currently, I am living on the 80/20 principle, and God is so faithful. He provides for me daily.

We have also taught this to our children, and currently, our daughters are saving 50% of their pocket money and only using 50% monthly. They understand God’s principles, and by living this during their teenage years already, they will be able to continue into adulthood. I leave you with Proverbs 22 verse 6: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

A short story of how Covenant Finances not just keeps me out of debt, but also keeps my household financially free from debt. Realising that the tithe you give back to God/Church unlocks so many blessings is indeed a fact, and God even says we can test Him on that. I have realised that when I don’t tithe, we usually struggle to get through the month, but on the other hand, if we do give our tithe, we have more than enough left over every month. This allows us to grow our investments in order to grow our future.

Covenant Finances also taught me how to grow my personal investments from just a basic savings account into three more investment accounts. And not just that, it gives you the ability to get to a place of living on only 80% of your monthly salary, meaning 10% goes to the church and another 10% goes into your different investment accounts.

This process of growing your financial freedom is a lot more simple than one thinks. And using the “Debt Snowball Effect” not just to get out of debt but to grow your investments more is an insane way of doing it. Just turn the process to save more. But the biggest testimony of all is that this 80/20 way of life gave me the opportunity to pay for the birth of our little girl cash, and the reason for that is that our medical insurance did not want to cover it.

And being able to take out R40 000 seems like a lot but if you rely on God’s hand in your life, especially in your finances, you will truly live a life of overflow and blessings.

Proverbs 22 verse 6 NKJV

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
